• Frustrated with Pro ver 6.0327 for Android

About three years ago after trialling a heck of a lot of alternative apps I settled on using Jefit Pro because it best suited my purpose. Now, after applying the last upgrade (v6.0327) I'm really getting frustrated at some of the things that have been changed:

1) When I start the app I get taken into "Current Routine" but I've no idea how to change it. Sure I can go to "Find a Routine" on the menu, but darned if I can see how to choose which routine there I want to make my new current routine. Things like this no longer seem to be as intuitive (i.e. user friendly) as they were on older versions.

2) If I don't enter a workout or exercise until the day after I actually do it, it seems I have to enter it with today's date then go back to the log and change the date of each exercise to the right one. Pretty sure the date was able to be set at the "do it" screen. It's not there any more.

3) In the metric world, especially for we weaker guys, it's quite common to use fractional weights. E.g. Barbell press might be 57.5kg. The keyboard that pops up for entering weights and reps doesn't have a decimal point key but has instead useless keys such as # * and return ... none of which are valid characters for weights or reps. Sure we can swap back and forth between symbols and digits keyboards, but why couldn't the decimal point key replace one of those keys that are not useful?

4) I used to be able to use the clipboard copy and paste feature when entering the same weight or reps for multiple sets. Routines such as Smolov have you doing up to 10 sets at the same weight. I can't use the clipboard in the weight and reps fields now. All I can do is select all and overtype it. This is really tedious - especially when combined with the keyboard swapping when you have to enter a decimal point into the weight.

I feel really frustrated with these and some other retrograde changes that have been made to the point where I'm wondering whether I'll have to start a new search for another app to use *sigh*

Oh and, just in case the post I made in the Help thread wasn't noticed, the link to the Help site puts you in a continuous loop. So how do we actually get to the Help pages?

Thanks
John

Thanks to Tiger1983 for information on this problem, although it doesn't solve it. It seems some people get a pin at the bottom of the "Routine Details" view which they can use to set that routine as the current one. Others, like me, don't have the pin in their view and so can't choose a default current routine :-(

Hey Robert thanks for your detailed reply.

Tiger1983 has already showed me the pin in his response to my post in this thread: http://www.jefit.com/forum/showthread.php?37999-JEFIT-Support-Help-Center-(FAQ)&p=59872&viewfull=1#post59872

I have tried to make myself as clear as I can but obviously failed in this case. For that my apologies. I'll try again, using some larger screenshots which I've uploaded to my website. (The images resulting from the attachment feature on here are too small to show enough detail.)

First off I am using a Samsung Galaxy S2, running Android 4.1.2, which is the latest version that I've been offered via automatic software update notifications. The phone has not been rooted. I'm a pensioner, so not really in a position to continually upgrade my phone with the latest, but thought some of the issues here should be available on my phone (and in some cases were available in earlier versions of Jefit).

1) Setting a workout routine as the current one:

As already stated in the thread linked to in my earlier post: No, I don't see any pin on my Routine Details screen. Here is a larger screenshot showing said screen:

I have a + icon at bottom-left for adding a workout day and a pencil icon at bottom-right for editing the workouts. No further options appear if I tap the phone's menu button. If I rotate the phone sideways the + and pencil icons move to the top of the screen but no additional icons appear.

2) Entering a workout at a later date:

Yes, you are correct that if I choose to enter an exercise on the fly and hit Do It then the screen shows a calendar icon which allows the date to be overridden, for example, should you enter the details the day after you actually performed the exercise. I find overriding the date very convenient in situations where I don't want to bring my phone into a busy weights room and start fiddling with it while I'm exercising.

However my issue is really around the inability to override the date when you are entering the weights and reps done in a routine. When I choose a routine (as opposed to an on-the-fly exercise) and then hit the green Start Workout button, everything I enter gets logged to the current date; I don't get the choice of changing the date on either the routine screen or the exercise screen. Instead, I have to enter the weights and reps of the entire workout then go back to the logs and edit the date on each exercise. I thought we used to be able to change the date on each exercise as we worked through the routine. Here is a screenshot of an exercise screen while entering details of a routine. It has icons for entering a note and for viewing the historic logs of the exercise but nothing to allow today's date to be overridden:

3) Keyboards for entering weights and reps:

I get a choice of two keyboards - the default one showing essential keys such as digits and backspace and useless characters (in this context) such as # and *. The essential decimal point key is on the alternative keyboard (along with a bunch of customized keys that I've really no clue what they're used for). I have to flip back and forth between these two keyboards just to enter a fraction weight. As I say, this become tedious if you have a lot of sets with fractional weights.

4) Clipboard functionality for entering weights and reps:

This was definitely there but has now been lost. I used to use it regularly.

Thanks again for any assistance and keep up the good work - in the gym and at the keyboard

Also, it would be really great if you could resolve the help FAQ issue. Might keep me from having to ask so many questions.

Thanks.

I've just noticed that I get the right keyboard and the clipboard functions when I enter body stats. (See following screenshot.) Thought this is what should also be in use for entering lifting weights and reps:

I have this same issue on a droid razr maxx. Had the "pin" button prior to the last update, now it's gone. That leads me to think it's in the app code, not something to do with the phone. You can still " set current routine" from the website, but if I'm going to have to use the laptop for that, why not just use it all the time instead of using the app (pro, paid for it)? (I got the support page unending loop, too)

Also, manual entered activity on log/calendar just seems to disappear (like a run, etc), and had some in app workout logs go poof, too.

Thanks again Robert for the time and trouble you have gone to to discuss each of the above points. It really is appreciated very much.

I've had very little time recently to spend on forums, etc. but managed to get workouts done at the gym then a meal and straight to bed! So this reply has been a long time coming.

Just to summarise the points we've discussed:

1) Setting a workout routine as the current one:
We are finally in agreement that this can't be done via certain instances of the mobile application. I am not the only user who has noted this.

The workaround this is to use the Routine Manager on the website to change the routine to be used as the default.

2) Entering a workout at a later date:
Yes, I've always been aware that a workaround is to enter the workout then go back to the logs and change the date on every exercise within the workout individually, but the original question was why can't the user be given the choice of selecting the date at the time they originally enter the exercises rather than having to go through the whole set of exercises a second time to correct. I'm pretty sure this is functionality that has been removed at some point when an update was applied, because I've always been in the habit of entering stuff not on the same day that I do it.

Guess it's not something that cannot be worked around so unlikely to be restored to how it was.

3) Keyboards for entering weights and reps:
Apparently this is device dependent but the thing is that I have heaps of other apps that present the correct 'numeric' keyboard (including a decimal point) whenever numeric input is called for. Indeed, even within the Jefit app the correct keyboard is presented when I go to enter Body stats, such as weight, bodyfat or height. If it can be done there I don't know why it hasn't also been done for the more frequently entered fields of Weight and Reps for exercises.

4) Clipboard functionality for entering weights and reps:
Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. As I said, I was in the habit of copying and pasting weights and reps on a regular basis until it no longer worked.

New problem with logs (on mobile app only)
Unfortunately things now seem to have gotten worse with a more recent update. At first I thought it was an anomaly that may be related to the change of the month (April to May) but it's not gone away:

In a nutshell, when a routine is performed and weights and reps entered, they get logged to the current date (expected behaviour). However, if I perform and enter the weights and reps for an 'on the fly' exercise (not via a routine) the log shows them as being on the previous day. But wait ... there's more ... if I open the calendar at the date the exercise shows in, the date of the exercise shows as that day (i.e. previous to the day the data was entered), yet if I then go to edit the data and select the date ... the date shows on the spinner wheels as being the correct date on which the data was entered!!

The result is a real mess when you try to consult you logs to see what you've done and when.

The only good news about this is that everything shows on the correct days when you view the log calendar on the website version.

I don't mind new functionality that doesn't work properly but get really frustrated with stuff that used to work and gets broken when we upgrade to newer versions that we cannot revert to an older one. Now that I can't even get the application to keep a log of stuff I do without mucking it up I think I'm on my last gasp with using Jefit. Pity - it used to serve me well.
