  • Just started working out; looking for some suggestions

    Hi,

I am Piyush. I am a graduate student at SUNY, Buffalo. I have background in Acting and I plan on pursuing it in future. One of the things I have been working on is physic. I am very average built. 156lbs, never went to gym before in my life.

I have started working out for last 4-5 weeks. I do cardio (treadmill for 20 minutes), 3 sets of dumbbells, chest, abs crunches etc. I am not sure though what exactly I should be doing, how much should I be eating, how helpful would it be to get a trainer? ( they are expensive), is there any specific exercise routine that I should follow?

I look forward to your replies.

    Thank you,
    Piyush

    Welcome to Jefit.
First of your diet is 90% of the battle, work out your BMR, theres plenty of calculators on the internet and that will give you a rough guide to how much you should eat, 3000+ calories a day would be a good start
a GOOD trainer might be a good idea for a few sessions just to get you on your way etc, or do alot of research on the net etc for yourself

And the routine depends on the person and the goals, if you want to tone up and lose weight follow a cardio based cutting routine, if you wanna bulk all over a compound exercised based routine etc etc

      Welcome!
mrwright summed it up for you. Without knowing your goals (get bigger, lose weight) we can suggest much.

        Hey Guys,

Thank you for replying. I have got an instructor for 3 sessions. He is going to introduce me to exercises and give me rough routine for myself.
